It was late morning and Giulia was walking along the Rozenhoedkaai  together with Rianne and Mathijs.
The twins were from a small village in the Artois region  and their children eyes were still full of wonderment at seeing
so many novelties in the streets of the capital. Meinsent and Sir Andries were with them, taking care as the childern don't get in some trouble. Giulia would like to enjoy the festive mood in an informal way. There would be time in the evening for the more official ceremony of lighting the bonfire at the Mark.

Rianne looked at her almost pleading, saying in one breath, and  Mathijs nodded readily - Mylady, could we visit the Markt, please?

Giulia nodded smiling. Just arrived there a group immediately attracted the attention of the children. In fact, a large crowd was near a group of foreigners, completely dressed in white, ready to start their performance.
Rianne and Mathijs wanted go inside the crowd, right in front of those exotic foreigners, but they were promptly withheld by Meinsent - Wait, little urchins, a bit of good manners, please !
The crowd saw the arrival of the Queen and gave her way, smiling and bowing. Giulia smiling in turn came to attend the upcoming show.

Jasir noticed noble lady with two young kids. He knew they had to be important persons, since crowd gave them free space. In this while older al-Zarqai was in 7th heaven. In few jumps he was near to young persons. "Sir, Milady! Welcome in our Oriental world! Came with me to see real Royal Camel!" He showed them by his arms, and didn't stop to talk. His language after last months was quite good. Just awful accent and a lot of foreign words could be a problem for those who were trying to understand him.

"Came! Don't be afraid, these monsters from south don't bite! They are our horses on desert. Are best! They don't need to drink anything, and eat sand!" He laughed loud and took out something brown from his pocket. It was looking like real sand. Jasir gave it to one of camel. This trick was great, he knew it. Brown sugar wasn't well known in most of places where he was.

Nor Lioness nor Nasr didn't participate in the show. He sat on side of his group. She was lying by his side. Nasr took his old lute. It was hard to recognize this instrument. Old, used but still full of orient ornaments. Al-Zarqai stroked gently rounded shapes of lune. He took instrument into his arms and hug it with all attention. His fingers run softly by strings. Nars closed his eyes and caressed lune by few next whiles. Then he began to play quietly.. he didn't notice when his voice became loud and hearable for all around

where flies the eagle on the sky?
what a target found his eye?

The dark forest hides his kid,
for a peace and quiet, makes a bid
Shining river blinks to him
would you with my fishes today swim?

where flies eagle on the sky
would find him my naked eye

could I catch him by telescope?
using my eyes like a magic rope
could I stop him for a while
to ask him why he goes and why?

where flies eagle, why he flies
under sun who strongly shines

Over desert and its lands
full of heat and full of sands
the hard world without sign of life
where pain and death are same rife

where flies eagle where he goes
who could stop him who are his foes

Day slowly escapes from his claws
hides under sands like a spiny mouse
Moon opened his eye made from stone
but the eagle didn't wait and has just gone

where's the eagle where he flew?
until hid him night's arms blue?

where's my soul where is my heart?
for whom he beats, by whom he hurts?

where is the eagle..
..on the sky..

Giulia smiled gently in on hearing the invitation of the foreigner dressed in white, apparently the leader of the group.
She slightly nodded and almost suddenly the two children  yanked the man as he would lead to give a closer look at the camels as promised.

"They do not need anything to drink, and eat sand!"
Giulia laughed at those words and even more amazed by looking at the expression of the twins. She was focused in observing those exotic animals, listening to  Rianne and Mathijs' questions, when some other sounds and words, those of a song, made their way into her mind.
Slowly, then growing, fully capturing her attention.

Giulia's memory flew high and far away along a kaleidoscope of memories and colors...

she smiled...
the wind in her hair while riding that night... blue as the thoughtlessness...
the evening breeze along the streets of a capital quite far away... yellow as the curiosity...

she shivered...
the roll of the ship returning from a sea journey... red as the outrage...
the smell of a burnt parchment... grey as the ash...

the ashes...
a silent tear rolled down her cheek...

Then, all colors merged in her eyes just in white, white as the robes she was seeing all around.
She turned slowly toward the origin of that melody, and her eyes met those of the lioness.
They looked each other for a long time, fixedly, as mirroring one another...
the lioness of Flanders and the lioness of the desert...
Nearby the lioness a man, dressed in white, clean-shaven, his head bowed on a lute, had just finished playing.

The Lioness turn her head toward the Queen. She picked up her ears and growled surprised.. Her master knew this voice - it was a sign she saw something interesting. Nasr was still in his dreams. He slowly and reluctantly raised his look. Hands still were caressing instrument. He noticed some noble lady stays in front of him. Dress was looking on very expensive. Nasr didn't want leave his dreams, so his moves were lazy.

In same time he knew he had to look in eyes of this lady and bow to her. Without looking higher he rised to do all like needs etiquette. But then he saw a red hairs of its owner.

The fire! Flames of fire camps... red blood in the battle… red banners on the wind… burning hearth…A lot of memories from deep past. He took a deep breath and raised his eyes a bit more. Two emeralds were watching him.
Dark forest… green meadows… almost forgotten yesterdays.

He bowed to the ground as quick as a thought. Too much colors in his mind didn't allow him to breath. His lute almost fell down on the ground. Nasr couldn't keep it into his shaking hands.

"Your Royal Highness!" He fell on one knee in the bow. That was safer to him to stay in this position, to don't show his weakness. "In far lands the mysterious flower blooms in those nights somewhere in deep forest. I see, in this country legendary flower blooms in the middle of the city.." His voice was same shaking as his hands. He hoped Her Royal Highness is used to listen an affect in speeches of her subjects.

Fortunately his lioness hadn't same problems. He walk with all her grace to Her Highness. Looked straight into her eyes, and tilted her head on side.

Giulia smiled, gently and enigmatically at the same while. She had fully recovered her self-control. Thus, without stop in looking the lioness, she nodded to the man to stand up and said - Please, tell me, courteous Stranger, do you've brought up her by yourself?

Nasr was mad on lioness. His eyes could kill in this moment. Thus he straightened up slowly. He needed a while to calm himself down. A shadow of angry was still visible when his blue eyes met the green. Bright twinkle shined in his look. Thus before he said anything he had to lower his eyes.

"Forgive us, Your Royal Highness…she..." He turned his face on the lioness "Nasreen.." one quiet world, and animal dropped his head and her ears. She was going to back to her master.. just something didn't allow her. - curiosity

"It isn't possible to teach a lion anything… all what she does she does cos she wants.." Nasr tried to explain himself. All the time he was looking on animal. "that's a nature of lionesses, Your Majesty" smiled.

For a really short while Giulia looked at the eyes of that man, a lightning flickered in her eyes, but no other feeling outside.
Thus, she burst into a silvery laughter and replied - I well know, courteous Stranger.
She paused for a while still looking at her, then she said with a courteous smile - I have to prepare myself for the opening of Midsummer celebrations. May you enjoy your stay in my beloved Kingdom. - and turned to leave.
But she was puzzled, so few steps after she turned back and added nonchalantly - I would be delighted to hear again your song in my Palace, tomorrow. Please, ask for Sir Andries to ask for an audience.

"May you enjoy your stay in my beloved Kingdom" Nasr gave an answer to himself:
- I don't dream on anything else.. - just it was too quiet to be audible for Her Majesty

When the Queen went few steps, the lioness was going after her. Nasr was confused. Didn't know how to react. Fortunately Her Highness turned herself and invited him to the palace - I would be delighted to hear again your song in my Palace, tomorrow. Please, ask for Sir Andries to ask for an audience.

That was a chance for him to say anything and to call back lioness. Nasr hit his leg by a hand. That was enough for the lion to understand. She back slowly to her master
- Your Highness, it would be a honor for my humble person to have a chance to meet Your Majesty and whole Royal Family. Even if I'm not used to sing for anyone except myself. - he bowed once again and added with kind of melancholy - be greeted Your Majesty, You and Your Royal Spouse, of course

He wasn't sure if he didn't say anything wrong. He forgot how to talk with monarchs. Especially when monarch was a beauty lady in same time.

Giulia made a gesture of assent with her head, smiling, and headed to the Royal palace.
The twins, very excited, were commenting  and getting a thousand of new questions, Giulia gestured impatiently with her hand and immediately Meinsent took care of them.
Giulia, two steps ahead of the group, was still hearing the silvery voices of the two children, but gradually the melody of the song she had heard at the Markt resurfaced in her mind. Her expression became puzzled, almost bewildered.
Then she shook her head and whispered - Tomorrow I will have more time, now my duties for the opening of the Midsummer celebrations waiting for me.

Nars after talk with the queen was trembling and a bit mad. The anger was going to be bigger second by second. In same time his brother was still in 7th heaven. A lot of peoples and he in the centre. To feel bigger pleasure he needed only Nasr's smile. Thus he began to look for his friend. When he found his eyes he understood what he has to do.

A short "saber?" was enough. Nasr just nodded. His brother wouldn't be himself if he wouldn't try to change this duty into next pleasure. "Ladies and Gentlemen! Unbelievable show is waiting for all of you! Royal duel from the kingdom of sands! Best sabers made in best orient blacksmith! Come and look!"

Finally Nasr could find a way to use his anger. His hits were fast and full of madness. Jasir had to control all, else the show could be changed into bloody spectacle. He parried all without bigger problem. His skills were, fortunately, great. Also Nasr knew it, and only by this reason he didn't pay attention to anything. He could be just focused on his anger.

Jasir after many minutes of show was tired. But he had to wait for a while when his brother will be totally exhausted. When the show was going to be bored, he decided it is over. In one while he parried a hit and knocked out saber from Nasr's hands. His opponent fell on knees and smiled. The anger went away. He was ready to go to the castle.

"Brother... I'm owe you a reward… would you like to see a Royal Palace.. from inside?". Jasir burst into laughing. "Seems you lost also mind, not only bad mood. What for are you asking me? Sure I want!". Nasr joined to his friend in laughing "Indeed I lost.."

Red sun hid itself behind horizon. Nasr went to listen opening ceremony. He saw the Queen with a torch in her hand. Al-Zarqai didn't listen short speech. He was bewitched by flames. Their dance occupied his mind and moved his thoughts far away from this evening. He heard even a music, fast biting of hearth.

When the fire of bonfire raised to the sky Nasr saw full moon. This night it was same red like all around. The moon-prince was watching on him. He knew it is a sign.. just one kind of sign, good or bad? Would the Prince lead him to the real home, or he just is there on the sky to remind him the time before he did his inexcusable mistakes. What the moon over a fire wants say..

The lioness touched Nasr's hand by her nose. Then he understood all.

In early morning a man in white went to the Castle. There he asked for audience for him, his lion and his brother. Nasr just said that the singer would like to offer his skills for Her Highness in this day.

Royal guards were standing up at the main entrance of the Royal Palace courtyard. They looked unmoved on the man in white approaching, as they listen without any special reaction his request for an audience to the Queen.
The youngest was going to refer the request to a Lord Chamberlain's assistant, while Rianne and Mathijs  arrived there accompanied by Sir Andries.
The twins recognized the man in white right soon and joyfully ran toward him, overwhelming him with questions.
Mathijs asked promplty - Where did you leave the lioness?  Did you have tamed her with your music?
Come, Sir, tell us, please - added Rianne, her eyes shining with excitement and a sweet smile.
One step back, Sir Andries was  looking intently the scene, eyeing the man from head to foot, but without intervening.

Nasr was confused. He never was talking with kids, and never paid attention to them. Just this time he knew these children are much more important than he is. Most probably the Queen was their mother in law. Thus he tried to find himself in this situation.

- Sir, I'm sure you learn good manners. All what shall to know gentlemen cannot be unknown for young cavalier. Thus I won't explain you in detail what is allowed in relations with person who you love. Same is with Nasreen. She isn't a dog who brings you a bone - Nasr nodded to Mathijs, and turned his face toward young lady. Her smile brightened his mood. He bowed gently and fell on one knee (to don't be taller than the girl) and gave back courteous smile:
- Milady, your request is an order to me. My Dear Nasreen left with my brother. It wouldn't be right to bring lady with myself. I'm here to ask for audience.. so that's only some kind of technical visit. It would be dishonor to drag her along right now - Nasr was bewitched by Rianne's eyes and smile. He turned his look into boy and nodded gently. His look said "watch out, that's the way like you shall talk with lady". Then he looked at girl once again and smiled - Just, if milady wishes so, we could came here together to visit you.

Nasr nodded once again, and straighten up. He noticed someone else stranded behind kids. Seems it had to be sir Andries.

The twins were fascinated by those words, even if for different reasons. Both were very proud of themselves, so they whitened at Sir Andries' words, lowering their eyes - Lord Cornelis is waiting for you right soon,  Rianne and Mathijs.

The old guard captain looked still for a while the man in white straight in his eyes, serious in face. It seemed he was going to add some, when he turned in hearing some horses approaching. The Queen was arriving escorted by two guards.

Nimbly Giulia dismounted Auster close to the group. She smiled gently to the man and said - Courteous Stranger, I'm so delighted to meet you again.

Nasr heard some rumors. He decided to show to kids who shall react a man when speaks with someone important. He didn't turn himself and was waiting. He smiled to kids gently. Even when steps were close to him, he was paying all attention to his young interlocutors.

Then he felt aroma who has to belong to lady, particular lady. In same time when she asked him:
- Courteous Stranger, I'm so delighted to meet you again - he turned toward her. "the Queen" thoughts, and bowed to the ground. In this position he explained himself:
- Your Royal Highness, forgive me, the stranger from countries full of sands. Perhaps I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Nasr. I belong to al-Zarqai family. They call me the White. - he did small break. Perhaps it was by the look on royal foot. - I come here, cos Your Royal Highness asked me for that. I couldn't refuse Royal Request, so am I here and ask for audience… if Your Majesty still wishes so...

Before he straighten up, he hid his face, so only eyes were watching on the Queen. Some kind of melancholy or just a shy filled out them..
