Giulia smiled to the Count, grateful for the cup of tea was offered her....
too much beer could be too dangerous taking into account her innate curiosity.

She listened very carefully to the second part of the story, once again recognizing in the words of Lord Harald the qualities she saw in him ... willpower, commitment, foresight, but also friendliness, kindness, mind nobility... a really charismatic personality.
She likes also his love for jokes.

It was now very late, but the time had passed very quickly.

"I dont know how to thank you for all the time you spent with me, my Lord", she said quietly smiling to him.
"Tomorrow, I will leave Brugge to come back in Italy because the Carnival in Venice and in Milan.
A chance of jokes you might like.
Anyway I will be back in Flanders in few days to study as usual."

"I hope you will find again the time for another lunch in the future. I like so much
to lissen you taking about your kingdom and you"
, she said slightly blushing again.

Harald still remember the last words pronounced by the young Lady during their supper. He was always amazed by the great energy that this Lady of the southern lands put in everything she did.

Harald smiled and sip his ale. His Country was changing, faster. New citizens were coming from abroad, attracted by the good behavior of the Flemish People; open to accept foreigners until they work to let Flanders grows.

Many languages were spoken in Brugge in that days, from the Flemish to the German, from French to Italian, from English to Romanian and many others, but differences were banned from the County, this is the will of Harald.

This is the reason why Lady Giulia and a bunch of her friends accepted to be the first nucleus of the future Flemish community of Andernach, the southern stronghold of the Kingdom.

Harald called the page he knew be outside the door waiting for him. “My Lord?” the young boy asked, “Go to the stable and give orders to prepare my horse, I go south”, “Yes My Liege” then, after a bow, the page closes the door.

Harald took again his ale. He looked outside the window over Brugge, his beloved city, and he smiled again.

Giulia has been very glad about the unexpected visit of the Count Harald in Andernach. His presence and his striking words would have been engraved for a long in the memory of all the people there.... the southern stronghold of the Kingdom, a relevant place to build and to reinforce, for sure. It would take time and efforts, but no matter about.

Afther some days, in a paused period, Giulia has come back in Bruge to study, as custom for her.

But the day before she had a long ride along the beach to greet her friends leaving for a campain and to have time to reflect on herself, after the first few days of frenetic activity in Andernach....

She looked for a while the waves of the North Sea and the clouds running above, her hair tousled by the wind...
Then she took from her bag a small book bound in red morocco leather, an old gift of hes nurse.
Shee drew a quick sketch and some strange characters at the margin, then she put it carefully back and smiled ....

"No more  just few moments of peace, but the true peace and serenity so desired, the  freedom to be myself..." - Giulia whispered to the wind, the witness of her words.

She had so many questions and so many projects in mind that she would have written early to the Count, demanding the chance to talk about with him, when he had some time to spent with her.

Giulia spent a lot of time in studying in the past weeks.
Thus, she accepted with a great pleasure and a subtle excitement the advice of the Count Harald about a journey.
She found a good vessel in Ieper and she start her journey on the sea: a long journey toward a kingdom never visited before, but not a foreign land. She was sure to have at least a good friend over there.

A quiet journey, sailing along the coast, looking at the sea and to some sea gulls flying and fishing around.
She took from her bag a small book bound in red morocco leather and she drew some sketches of the landscape progresively trasforming moving fron North to South.

A friendly welcome at her arrival, also much more than she expected, but the time runs quickly and other tasks require her  commitment.
So, she spent another night on a new vassel to continue her travel.

At the morning she arrived in the italic kingdoms, she visit the Duchy of Milan with pleasure: how may memories in those places and again some good friend
to talk with. But, once again, the time runs quickly and other tasks require her  commitment.

This time she rent a horse and continues her journey by land. Now, she is again along a beach, waiting for a response to a special issue.
A journey can often have some troubles... it's funny as a beach has becomed for her the best place in which to put order into her toughts....

"What can I do, now? What would the Count do now in my place?", she had to take a proper solution before leaving again.

It was been a long journey around in Europe, with some difficulties, but also very pleasant.
Now, Giulia was in Andernach working in her herbalist shop to provide all was needed for her friends and to solve any possible issue.
Just a couple of days and then she would came to Brugge for studing, as usual in this quiet period.
She asked Leirin to deliver a letter to the Count, just a short message.

"My Lord Harald,
I'm now in Andernach, coming home after the long journew You know.
I will come in Brugge in a couple of days for studying.
Basically, it has been a really fruitful and interesting journey.
I have a lot of things to tell You about, as soon as you could have few time to spend with me.

Sincerely and respectfully,

Giulia"

She sealed the scroll and smiled thinking about all different places visited during that journey.

Harald was overlooking the unloading of the goods transported at the dockyards. He decided to follow personally the expedition of these goods to Sjiaelland and left with the Flemish commercial fleet toward Danmark few days before.
Things were going well. The trip was a good one with good wind and an unusual calm north sea.

While observing the sailors unload, his mind went to his next schedule in Flanders; the completion of the projects in Brabant, the start of the new ones and the several meeting he has to manage.

He needed to talk with Lady Giulia Aldobrandeschi to address some issues in the south soon; thinking about that he hoped the page brought his message to the young Lady.

It was late in the afternoon. Giulia had just returned in Brugge from Brabant, where she helped in the construction of the tavern and the market.

She entered her small house tired and dusty, but Meinsent  was there, preparing something for dinner.
When in Brugge, Giulia was often too busy in studying  and sometimes she preferred to eat at home and not at the inn.
For such a reason she had asked to a young girl living very close to assist her in the house affairs.
Meinsent was really young, but she had proved soon to be very devoted and fast to learn what Giulia needed.

"Good evening, my dear Meinsent. Which news?".
"Good evening, my Lady. The dinner is quite ready and here there is some warm water I will bring soon in your room, but first of all you have to read this." - handeding her a scroll with the seal of the Count.
Giulia opened the scroll and read it quickly. Immediately she took the feather and wrote a response.

"My Lord Harald,
I'm just come back in Brugge and at Your disposal whatever You need.

Sincerely and respectfully,
Giulia"

She sealed the scroll and while asking to Meinsent to deliver it to the palace, she saw the light shining in the eyes of the young girl - "Yes, Meinsentl, I have promised you.
Tomorrow we will start ...."

Harald was overlooking at the Royal Palace storage, checking with the store master if there were enough resources for the projects underway.

We’re doing a good job Sir. We’re pushing the gathering of resources, and the farms in Breda have worked properly. We need to go further on this path Sir, Harald said.

Yes my Liege the man answered we need to make some adjustments, but we’re on the right path as you said my Lord

Harald’s mind went to the amount of things he has to do in the next months.

He looked at the master who was waiting for him.

Very well Sir, I need to talk with Lady Aldobrandeschi. Please send her a page with a message asking to reach me for supper tomorrow evening at the Palace.

Aye my Lord, the master said, and with a bow he left Harald to his thoughts.

Giulia was recently returned home in Brugge. The day before a young page had delivered a message from the Count for an invitation for a supper at the Palace this evening. It was time to prepare herself, despite Meinsent  was dancing around really excited.

For a while she smiled, amused, but when Meinsent started talking about some kind of really complicated hairstyle, Giulia replied strongly - "Dear Meisent, it's just a supper, not a grand ball at the Palace. Dont be afraid, loose hair and two small braids joined behind are simply what I wish for this evening.
Every occasion calls for its proper preparation, not more, not less. Remember that, this rule applies to everyone. "

Meisent looked down and executed, she was too young to fight back, despite she was really fond of her.
Seeing her, Giulia smiled again, gently - "I was not scolding you, but just explaining the reason."

Giulia put on her woolen cloak and walked toward the Palace.
When arrived at the big door, one of the guards recognized her immediately and a young page escorted her in the same large room heated by a huge fireplace and adorned with some beautiful tapestries with hunting scenes in which she had been some months earlier.

The Count Harald was there, standing by the window, very serious and deep in his thought.

"I am here, my Lord, I can only thank you for this invitation." - she said, quietly smiling to the Count.

"I am here, my Lord, I can only thank you for this invitation."

Harald turned his head stopping his mumbling. He saw the young red hair Lady waiting for him. ‘Oh, good evening Lady Giulia! How are you?’

Then he turned to the page waiting near the door ‘Bring us the supper please’, ‘Yes my Liege’ the young page replied and with a bow he went to the kitchens.

While pointing the table near the window Harald said ‘I have ordered something to eat for both, I hope you’ll have trust in my judgment, Lady Giulia’ giving a glance to the young Lady.

‘Oh, good evening Lady Giulia! How are you?’

Giulia smiled to the Count - "I'm really fine, my Lord Harald. Andernach is a wonderful place to live in, and I know Brugge for a long time before moving in Flanders."
For a moment she remembered a day not so long ago, in front of the North Sea - "No more just few moments of peace, but the true peace and serenity so desired, the freedom
to be myself..."
- Giulia whispered to the wind, the witness of her words.

Feeling the gaze of the Count, she roused herself - "I beg your pardon, my Lord, I got lost for a moment in my own memories"

‘I have ordered something to eat for both, I hope you’ll have trust in my judgment, Lady Giulia’

"Sure, my Lord Harald, I complety trust in your judgment about supper quality... what I can worry is about its amount for me! So, may I ask which is our first course?" - she answered jokingly smilling.

But, tell me, what are you talking about? You said something about peace and freedom.. And I’m a curious man, especially concerning of everything about my Nobles’ he said looking at the Lady.

Giulia sighed with relief, remembering the previous lunch invitation of the King, but suddenly she shook her head, really amazed.

'But, tell me, what are you talking about? You said something about peace and freedom .. And I'm a curious man, especially Concerning of everything about my Nobles' - what the King was saying.....?

"Sure, my Lord Haral, I know you are a curious man, and me too, but it's terrific ....
How can you be able to read into my thoughts?
I have thinking my face is just like an open book for You? "
- Giulia said looking him straight in the eyes.

"In any case, I was actually thinking about the peace that I feel since I moved in Your kingdom.
As to freedom, it is a long and complex issue. I beg Your perdom, my Lord, for such a  direct question, but You well know me...
What is freedom for You?"
- She added, gently smiling, but without stoping to directly looking at him.

"

Ah! Ah! don’t worry my young Lady Giulia’ Harald said laughing to the young woman in front of him, ‘I’m the King, true, but even the Kings have ears to listen to what people said, even if people doesn’t mind that they’re talking instead of thinking…’ Harald said blinking to the woman. ‘You were whispering my Lady; perhaps you were so deeply involved in your minds not to ear yourself talking..

"In any case, I was actually thinking about the peace that I feel since I moved in your kingdom.

"

Harald looked at the young lady for a short moment, deeply. ‘When I was a travelling merchant, for me freedom was the chance to do whatever I desired, when I desired, easy, uh? Now, Freedom, for me, is the chance to see my People grows. Walking among them, carrying with me only two guards, talking with them, shaking their hands watching them into their eyes, directly with no shame, means I’m a good Regent… until I’ll have this possibility I’ll be a free man. Anyway, I think freedom is a random concept'.

‘You were whispering my Lady; perhaps you were so deeply involved in your minds not to ear yourself talking..’

Giulia laughed in turn - "You are right, my Lord, I feel so free to be myself with You, despite the difference in our roles, to dont realize that I was also whispering those words.
I have really to thank You for giving me the opportunity to move in Flanders".

Giulia pondered for a while, thinking back to what the King had said and to herself.
"Yes, Freedom is a random concept to the extent that it depends on the individuality of each one. Indeed, there are some basic questions, such as peace and prosperity of the kingdom where one lives, but there are also several personal issues. I think the most important is to feel that we are doing what we are inclined to do, whatever it is. And to be able to express what we are feeling, clearly in a proper way.... With respect to me, here I have the freedom to dont have any religion and to dont be afraid to show all I know due to my peculiar education.... but You well know all this.
Thanks again, my Lord"
- Giulia said, gently smiling to him.
