Giulia had smiled, sincerely pleased, in reading the letter announcing the imminent marriage of Queen Constance of Denmark and the Doge Giovanni  of Most Serene Republic of Venice.
A ray of light and hope in those times so dark and tormented!
Quickly she wrote a message of good wishes to the newlyweds, sealed with her private seal. The confidence with both was so profound and she well knew  there would be somebody who would have exchanged that ray of sunshine for an evil lightning ...
Then she gave orders to prepare all necessary for the long journey.
Se would not have attended to the religious function, lately she was becoming more and more impatient towards religious ceremonials, or better, to the exploitation made, invoking in the name of a merciful God, what was really just human and limited greed and foolishness.
Nevertheless, she would have personally offered the gift to the two newlyweds. The journey was long, the weather adverse, she was certain Costance and Giovanni would have understood.

Dusan and Isabella had made a pleasant journey to get to Zadar where many Courts from all over the world had gathered to participate at the union of Giovanni and Costance.
For this occasion, Isabella had been sewn by a renowned Belgrade tailor, a beautiful Serbian traditional dress. The union with Dusan made her feel more and more like that community so different in culture, was close by feeling

Together they set off for the Basilica where the wedding ceremony would be held. It was years since Isabella entered a Theological Church and did not really feel at home, but when the couple declared their promises of marriage she felt that the Love that binds two persons, could be even bigger than that for a God ... she  looked at Dusan standing at her side and smiled with love

After the ceremony Isabella and Dusan approached the couple to offer their best wishes

I am very happy to be here today Giovanni and Costance to celebrate with you, I wish you a long and serene life full of love and children!

So saying, the Queen of Italy kissed the couple

These were hard days for Gilda, the war was causing pain and frustration, destruction and fear. Gilda felt a strong duty to protect Her people and so She decided to merge her young and small Kingdom with the glorious Eastern Roman Empire.
She was in the capital and devoted all Her time to hard training, when She saw Her messenger approach and say loudly "Your Grace, the Venetian Doge and the Queen of Denmark get married, You are invited to the royal wedding" Gilda smiled - to the first time in a long time - and thought "finally! Good news, the Power of Love can illuminate our hearts even in the darkest days". Quickly, She went to Her rooms to choose the most beautiful dress,  had her personal tailor pack a silk roll, the most precious to give it to the married couple, She got into the carriage and left to reach Zadar.
The city was celebrating and in the crowd recognized many old friends!!! Gilda greeted Father Cagliostro, a man of refined intelligence and Doge Giovanni!  She remembered the help received by the Venetians at the time of the Cyrene revolt and could never forget it. Gilda approached the bride, The Queen was of enchanting beauty in her wonderful dress. With a trembling voice of emotion, Gilda whispered to the newlyweds "I wish you a long happy life, may the purity of Your Love always give You wisdom and courage, and may the splendor of your souls always illuminate You!

Even Ezzelino, invited by his dear friend Costance, made the journey to be able to attend the ceremony of the wedding of his dear friend ....
In addition to her there were also many people he knew, many friends, with whom he would have liked to entertain himself as in every party should be, but a bad news had reached him just before the beginning of the ceremony, news from the Far East that filled his soul with sadness and pain , and what irony, just on this beautiful day should come?
However, the vision of the bride in her delicate beauty, made you forget for a while 'these sad thoughts ...
She, always been a woman of extraordinary beauty, literally shone in that dress, and really her vision left many speechless, Ezzelino was no less ... that lucky man doge, he thought to himself ...
Prometheus, his dear friend, for a long time, celebrated mass in an excellent way and everything was practically perfect, a really very beautiful ceremony.
At the end of the ceremony, however, Ezzelino's torments began to reappear, then warmly embraced the bride, wished her all the best for her new life, shaken hands with the doge recommending himself, said goodbye to his friends and and other participants, and embarked to Cyrene .... his people needed him, soon a hard test awaits them ....

"The ceremony is finished, you may kiss the bride.".

After kissing the bride, the Doge embraces father Prometheus who once again showed his great friendship with an exemplary ceremony

Then he turned around with his bride and was welcomed by Bishop Fabrizio, as a father welcomes his children
….  he approached Costance even more and, smiling, tenderly took her face and kissed her forehead. Then he turned to Giovanni and paternally kissed his forehead, ….
and his blessing was somehow special.

The newlyweds who left the cathedral were welcomed by the people in celebration and by many nobles and sovereigns. Among the first to congratulate them were the Tsar Dusan of Serbia and Queen Isabella of Italy, then it was the turn of King Istvan from Bohemia, the former queen of Jerusalem Merisi and many others .......

The party moved to the castle of Zadar where the Doge Soranzo and the Queen Costance had organized the wedding banquet that lasted until late at night.

------------------------------------------

For Matthew, attending the ceremony, it was the most difficult he could be at that time for him, but could not miss the friend of a friend so dear. He could not stay long, and after having seen the ceremony and gave greetings to the bride, he had immediately go away, because of his many commitments of war. A war that he never wanted and hoped could soon reach the end.

Andrea had heard from some parishioners about the marriage between Queen Costance d'Hauteville and Doge Giovanni Soranzo. The event did not concern him too much because he never had the honor of visiting Venice and his lands, let alone exchange a bit 'of talk with the locals. He knew the people concerned only for their fame and fantasized about what the city would be like on this day of celebration.
----------

Father Gunnar was pleased with the ceremony in the Zadar cathedral. No extravaganza, yet with a display of wealth and honour, as well as respect for Teos. That a local cleric and not himself would manage the ceremony was not a problem for him, as he was the cleric in Denmark with lowest seniority. No, this time he was a guest, and father Gunnar relaxed while taking in the views of the magnificent cathedral, the rich clothings, the wealthy decorations in the cathedral to the honour of Teos but also to the bride and the groom. He admired the singing of the choir, and he felt the scent from the incense burners. Yes, the ceremony was exactly like he had wanted it to be. But most important, there were no scandals, everything went smooth.

A wedding between monarchs is not based on love between the bride and the groom, but politics. And this wedding manifests the alliance between Venice and Denmark, the ties between these two nations have never been stronger than they are now.  If love is a part of this wedding, it must be the love each monarch has for their joined people. But to find a kinder and more generous man than the Doge of Venice would be hard, as Gunnar's visit to the Doge's chambers had proven. The Doge seemed both fair and unformal, of good spirits and with a bright head. -Yes, Gunnar thought, if they are lucky they may even find love together, once they get to know each other better.

Unfortunately Gunnar was so taken with the beauty of the cathedral and the church's library in Zadar. He couldn't help that he spent too much time over the books and in conversations with the local cleric. Gunnar even visited the small hospital run by the church, to see if he could learn something new. Apart from that, he of course watched the tournament. It seemed that his good friend, Lord Hugone of Viken, had won his first match. Gunnar went to see him, and it seemed that Lord Hugone had a few bruises, but nothing seriously. Gunnar tended the scratches and pulled out a small wooden splinter from Lord Hugone's arm, but there were no major injuries.

-A day's rest, and you will be fine, Lord Hugone. You made a good match, Gunnar said.

Father Gunnar then sent a message to the newly wedded couple, asking if they would allow him to bless them.

"HEILA" shouted the captain of the small and agile Roman tarida towards the first Venetian ship encountered. "We'll have to dock at Zadar, you could escort us, we're a Roman ship, but we're not armed." Eurosia della Mirandola is waiting for the wedding "...
After inspecting the ship from top to bottom, permission is granted to leave the ship at anchor off the Venetian port: "security reasons" explains the captain of the guard.
"Do not worry messere" answers Eurosia, we understand your concern.
A few hours later, Eurosia reached his wife to join the ceremony carrying a basket of blackberries. "Here I am dear, unfortunately the bottles have held back the guards as a precaution, will verify that there is no poison, but I managed to get this basket of blackberries authorized".
And with an agreeable reverence he greeted the Doge and the Queen just in time to be joined by a messenger.
"Damn dear" whispering quietly to her husband "I can not even hold back for a while ', I'll have to start immediately, have been sighted many Prussian ships off the coast of Narbonne" ...

- - - - - -

The ceremony had just ended, Queen Constance d'Hauteville and Doge Giovanni Soranzo had joined in the sacred bond of marriage. Giovanni was very happy, for the Man and The Friend before that for the Doge who had held the Serenissima with farsightedness and zeal in these years.
