Starting Once More
« on: 28 September, 2017, 05:39:43 PM »
A slender form stood in the fading light of the day surveying what would one day be her Land to administer for Draco, King of Aragona. Cuenca had been expanded so that it cut across Aragona from the Mediterranean Sea to the Borders of the Kingdom of Castiglia and Leon which made it a vital region. Directly to the south of Cuenca lay Valencia,  the Capital. She would give all she had left to help this land grow and prosper.

The path that had led her here had been roundabout, full of indecision and loss. She had left Aragona to go to Byzantium to try to encourage her husband to give up his plans of conquest. Alys had hoped that between herself and the child she carried it would be enough for him to leave and relocate with her. It had not. So she moved to Jerusalem in the hopes that she could rebuild there but that also proved futile. Then feeling lost and adrift and utterly alone she went to Roma to try to find her way once more.

That trip had cost her child on the voyage to Roma and  then very nearly her own life as the Plague had swept through Roma while she was recovering from the miscarriage. Once she recovered, she was...broken. Or perhaps stripped down to nothing but her Faith. All that she had become was utterly discarded and she pursued her new found role as a slayer of Rats in Roma to be very satisfying. Alys had sustained herself on that a prayer. It had been a dark fanatical place for her,

Then a letter arrived from Aragona, asking for her to return, offering her a place of honor in Valencia or her Home in Barcelona. Once more she knelt in prayer and found her answer. It was time to become who she was meant to be, it was time to go back to Aragona and to rebuild her life there, in the Kingdom that was her home.

On the Voyage she had to think upon where she would. Barcelona would be too Heartbreaking to return to with all of it's memories. Valencia by right should go to someone who had stayed through the troubles and been a proper support to the King. She was very pleased that it had gone to Aria. Instead she asked for this wild and rugged land. Here with help she would built her own place.

Now she would take back her own name.. Alys d'Gris. Now she would take back her own dreams. Now she would succeed by the Blessings of Teos and with the Support of King Draco and those friends who remained by her side through this all.

Alys placed the work hammer she held in her hand upon the ground and smiled at the progress being made. The Prisons and Barracks were complete, the Well complete and the Castle progressing nicely. There were small touches here and there that she  was building herself that perhaps gave the Castle a bit more of a feminine air. The curves of the outside where it might normally have been straight. The fine panelling that she had labored over. The small Chapel that she had insisted upon as a refuge from the daily toil of the work.

Already she knew how the rooms would be finished, the marble the would be laid upon the floor. The storerooms that would hold the food, clothing and medicine would all be made of cedar to keep the moths away. Some of her rest time had been spent in trying to tame some of the feral cats so that they would make the move into the Castle and keep away the rodents. Her feet took up the stairs to the highest point of her Castle. from here she could see where the Harbor would be built. Looking downwards she could also see where the market would be one day.

Then her eyes lifted to the small plateau. There one day would be the church her soul yearned for. One day she would no longer need to make the voyage into Valencia to pray in the Church. Loed Teos knew her hopes and he sustained her by sending her challenges to test her strength of will. She hoped that she had passed them all.

Everyone deserved a second chance, Alys pulled  a scroll from her pouch and reread the words her King had sent to her...

I am prepared to give him another chance if he is under your watchful eye. He would need to make a public apology on the Aragona Forums and give a sincere and solemn oath of loyalty and promise not to be involved in any other plot should one arise again before he would be allowed to return.

The words related to another, but she hoped that they would one day also apply to Ioans. Scrolls had also been sent to him, sitting in the Monastery.  All Saints day, nearly a month should be enough time for him to respond. Surely it would. Her heart hoped he would agree to try once more, but she was not sure if he could accept that change in their positions. One she, not he would be the King's Vassal. Another that She would be one of the King's advisors, not he. So much in reverse that she wondered if there was any chance at all of success.

Time alone would show Teos' Will. Her eyes watched the as the sun set upon another day,
