Parchment to be delivered to His Holiness Alexander VII
« on: 27 April, 2017, 11:00:37 PM »
After a little anticipation of spring in Urbino, the cold was back and some snow flakes had even whitened the roofs.

After the death of Oddantonio, Isabella was relieved, unable to react to that tragic event that had caught her by surprise and killed  her heart. Nothing seemed more important to her now.
That morning, as usual, after another sleepless night, she was retired in her rooms to handle, whithout forces, the  correspondence when a servant knocked on her door.

He handed her a parchment carrying the Papal Seal. What other news could still come from Rome?  She  trembled at the only  thought ...
But she made courage and opened it.

Carefully pay attention to the words spoken personally by the Pope and addressed to her. She had to read several times to understand his foreign idiom although a translation was attached but she managed to assimilate the meaning.

When she finished reading, she turned her gaze to that shelter window of her mind in difficult moments and let it lose itself in that family horizon that she had recalled all the times that a thousand thoughts had crowded her sense.

She had to think well before answering that Shepherd who unknowingly addressed her with kindness. From his words he seemed  a good and well-disposed mind toward her, what Isabella had long lost for Rome and the Theological Church.

The Pontiff wanted to meet her personally and she had many things to say, but did she have to tell the whole truth, with the risk of hurting or silent on certain issues and taking on herself the serious consequences of certain recent acts?
Was it good to talk freely or maybe it was better to keep up on some issues to avoid further possible conflicts?

She was thinking about how to do it ... the Pope was a man but enlightened by the divine aura and from the height of his wisdom would understand her intimate intent.

So she took paper and pencil began to write

At Holy See in Rome

Your Holiness,

Your unexpected words as you like, come to me as fresh mountain stream water in summer dry days.

I thank You for having found the time to speak words of proximity and condolences that refresh my anguished soul for the premature death of my beloved King Oddantonio.
That great mourning that made me apathetic, Holy Father, also gave me a heavy responsibility to guide that Kingdom which was His and to honor it in his memory, but  I have no strength to support.
However, having accepted the assignment, it is my duty to deal with matters that I am competing with.

From the death of Oddantonio I found myself not only in mourning, but also deprived of all the agility that he could guarantee to the whole Kingdom. This has allowed me to start looking at the world with other eyes and  although keeping my acting determined on some issues, I feel I have to change my address to some other ones and it will be  different from what has been adopted so far.
The death of Oddantonio, Magnificent Pontiff, has not only thrown me into despair, but also many people who are very attached to him and who have suddenly become orphaned by a father, a brother, a friend.

Among these are the Marquis Tiziano Fieschi who I know, has given signs of profound loss. He had left the Kingdom of Italy since the death of his King, and from that day I had no news on him, even though I wrote to him when the King of Venice informed me of the damage caused to the theological structures.

Holiness, from the height of your infinite goodness, I ask you to understand him and forgive him. I know Sir Tizian for years and I know he is a good and sensitive person, he has only been uncomfortable with the loss of a dear friend. I don’t currently have any news, but I think he is in isolation to recover.
For the protection of Sir Fieschi and at the same time in repairing the damage he has caused, allow me to send You 300 silver coins to be devoted to the theologians in need. Please kindly accept them as an humble gesture to close the dispute.

As for Your desire to cross the borders of the Kingdom of Italy, I will immediately issue a permit for You to enter Urbino, your visit will be more than welcome.

I would like to assure You that I am available for a review of the relationship between the Kingdom of Italy and the Holy See and we will discuss the details together if You like.

I’d have also urgency, Holiness, to speak to You of another very delicate issue and I hope to be able to do it in Your presence.. This is a matter that involves also You and You should be aware of it.

Waiting for Your news, I send my respectful greetings.

In faith

For The Kingdom of Italy

Sealed the parchment summoned a messenger to deliver it to the Vatican Chancellery

Così presa carta e pennino iniziò a scrivere

In fede

Isabella knew that the Pope was not in good health and didn't receive visits, but having to confer with him, she sent a missive to the  Papal Chancery to do delivered to him.

Your Holiness,

After a long time I come back to write to you and the opportunity is not the best.

As you have heard, the Kingdom of Italy has waged war on the Theological Roman Republic by attacking the Region of Ferrara.
For years the Kingdom of Italy and Rome have been on the verge of fighting each other, but the clash has always been avoided for countless reasons and I also include your attempt at reconciliation that you know how much I have appreciated.

However, the last diplomatic actions of Rome have provoked a reignite of the contrasts and the outcome today is what you know.
I had asked You politely to represent me at the Roman Senate so that a request for agreement could be formalized for the modification of the Diplomatic Status between the two Kingdoms, as Rome had informally advanced. I left to the Roman Senato the opportunity to demonstrate  in facts and not in words, the good will to mend the relationship between us in the hope that this will be really concrete and the request for change in Neutrality Status was not just a mere opportunism only act to be able to cross the territories of the Kingdom of Italy as they are precluded.
A small gesture would have been enough, that   not only  it was  shown, but even an answer has never been sent to this my address.
How many more do we have to suffer from Rome without being hurt, Holiness?

People can be enemies or simply not friends, but offending the dignity of a Crown, of a Glorious Kingdom like the one that I am honored to represent, this no Holy Father, can not be granted.

However, I would like to point out to you and to the whole Theological Ecclesiastical Community that the attack on the Republic has taken place towards Ferrara and not to Rome, because this is a contrast with the Republic and not with the Theological Church.
I hoped that you would have taken the difference, but I received news that Frà Palmerino Caracciolo, who is Ambassador of the Theological Church, was not only seen in the front row on the Battlefield of Narbonne, but was also nominated by the Roman Consul, Siniscalco of the Republic and therefore first War advisor.

I believe Holiness that this appointment is not appropriate at this time so delicate and therefore I hope you want to call your subordinate to deal with souls and not swords, as I also hope that you will not allow the theologians to fight against the Kingdom of Italy in a civil war that doesn’t involve the Faith. Also we hope that the Ecclesiastics won’t provide for the care of the militiamen, neither Romans nor Sicilians because the current situation is the responsibility of their Regents and not of the Church.

Sure of your immediate intervention for the moral qualities that belong to you and that I got to know, I send my fraternal greetings.

Queen of Kingdom of Italy

A deep frown crossed the face of the Sumus Pontifex. He was not pleased by this letter from his friend the queen of the Urbino court. Even as she had embraced the Patriarchal faith and had apparently not bothered to seek mediation by their leader she came now again to use His Holiness as a tool in her continued personal battle with Monsignor Carraciola. This she did while mentioning dignities of office and sovereignties?!
It was one more injustice that the warmongering Patriarchal Kingdoms all adored to embrace. While they took away from other kingdoms who had no offense against them they fabricated excuses. Adding to that they then behaved in nonsense as the other kingdoms imitated them and they insisted for their imitators it was a crime or a hypocrisy.

Greed was greed and Teos knew it and the Pontiff did as well. Greed does not have a singular nationality or region. It is one of the facets of the Cursed One and it was a contamination to be fought in every instance.

Quote
Dear Daughter of Creation,
Follower of the Patriarchal Hegemony

I could call you dear child yet today but I am not inclined to do so.
You have chosen the base crowd of warmongers and embraced their methods. Once you asked me to defend you from them and claimed you preferred peace. Now you see the wolves dressed in friendly colors and join their pack while claiming still to be a sheep.

This world has put scales on every eye. A new plague of bloodlust and justification sweeps the continent. You cannot join that battle on the side of agressors and say that the innocent blood and stench of smoke does not cling to you. You attacked...you did not defend. You have become a wolf yourself. Come back before it is too late.

There was honor and regality in Urbino. Now it is drowned in the sound of anvils and hammers and hidden by the furnace fires of the greedy. Taking an ally does not require taking their place in attacks. Putting the blood of another on your hands is still a personal chouce. If a man says you are NOT his friend if you do not spill blood for him then that man Is Not your friend but is a servant of death and El Diavolique. Defend them with shield and sword and you are true friend. Kill a neigjbor for him in that neighbors own home and you are a murderer.

Even these days I suffer insult from the crowns of Rome and Sicily for not calling Italy a land of sin and tyranny. Now, I know you want me to bless your actions and curse theirs but I bless none of you. I pray and I weep for those who die defending that which they already own. I tear my hair and my robes for the blind ambitions of the false clergy sitting in war chariots. The greatest general of Romes enemy is none other than the head of the church you now claim. Strange that none have whispered that their priests do not belong in warrior office or dress.

You tell me that I have not enough knowledge to speak wisely on the feuds ignited here and you spoke often to me of how wronged Urbino feels. Well if I am so ignorant there and have no reason to speak of the conditions there what cause would I now have to claim the knowledge that justifies dictating the decisions of the Senate and Consuls. This especially after you have made me quite aware of my blindness toward them and their motivations.

My saddest realization is knowing that Teos gave me warning to all this months ago. Before even Cyrenica or Jerusalem were bloodied by the Patriarchal alliances I knew what tide was set in motion.
None listened and the tides rose higher.
With war as their moon they grew. Now they wash the earth in blood and flame and create all manner of excuse for more....and not a single excuse to decide for peace. Not even when asked for. These are the people you truly call friend now and allies.

I came offering something. I did not demnd anything be taken. That is a friend.
Do not ask me to be a tool again. This world is already full of them and they are all now made from plowshares to swords. Soon enough the world will starve. I will hold fast to my own Teos until death though and pray for all this blood to not drown us all. I refuse to call for a dismal of a general. While I see the battle armor worn and worn with a tremendous familiarty on the Patriarchal priests...the priests of Theology will not be denied rights of defense for them or their believers. The concern you share for my clergy is apparently not enough for you to listen to their lessons so I have only to recognize it as a false concern for other designs. The monsignor Palmerino will have to reconcile with Teos. I know why he does what he does. I will not oppose it while your new masters cheat, lie, steal, and slay their way to a falsehood they name s "glory"  and you are joined beside them in these sins.

I still keep hope and prayers for all of you. Nothing is beyond redemption while it has life. But a choice has to be made by each and every soul on their own. Kill your neighbor or Love them. While you are dear to me, I cannot do what you ask because you do not ask it from a place of purity and love. These are insults against the  great Sacrifice that Teos made of His own beloved Immanuelle. Learn how to accept sacrifice without expecting reward and then we will all be on the true righteous path. All other forms of sacrifice are just false bartering and lack sincerity to be deserving.......even if they succeed. That is piety.
This church and the lessons of Immanuelle are eternal. We can afford to wait for you to come to us. We can wait for the children who have strayed. Then the merciful and truest judgements will be made. The thieves you are with are neither. They could change though too. I will believe it when they stop using swords to steal. Something I vaguely recall you yourself said was wrong not even a half a year ago. Back when you were merciful and wiser.

Pax Vobiscum Isabella, my daughter. Teos still Loves us all, even when we are not His perfect children. This does not mean he approves of what we do on every decision.

Come home as soon as you realize the true nature of the friends you now have. Victory does not make right. Victory is also fleeting. So are the thrones and crowns so many aspire too. Don't they realize there are not enough crowns in the world for everyone.....but there is enough redemption and Love if it is accepted for its own sake and not counted as currency.
Coins are easy to mint but melt to nothing useful just as quickly.

Isabella was very worried. He had received the letter from the Holy Father and in those lines she had seen the fogging of what she had once known as a clear and above all, free mind. The news that  came from Rome spoke of a Pope now relegated to his palace under the custody of the Roman militia. A Pope forced to isolation and succubus of the Roman Senate under penalty of its removal.

He had packed a beautiful speech filled with all the theological urges that a clergyman could use to redeem what seemed to be a lost sheep, Isabella, but in fact he judged , scolded and condemned her even pointing she as an assassin, justifying indeed the Romans and especially Frà Palmerino who pulled the strings of that poor marionette.

She couldn’t explain in any other way that speech that as representative of a painting,  aimed everything at the frame and not at the canvas.

He condemned Isabella for entrusting herself to her new masters whom he thought "cheat, lie, steal and kill". She wondered if he realized that he was not just talking about men but about the Patriarchate they represented and therefore he was offending an entire religious world, a Belif, an entire family.

How could he not have seen reality? The Savoy had been cowardly abandoned by Rome in the moment of extreme need and when it declared itself Vassal Kingdom of the Kingdom of Serbia, obtaining the defense that Rome had not been able to assure it, the Republic had attacked with his cronies, counting on their weakness. Was not cowardice a sin too?

Why did he say that it was the Kingdom of Italy that took up arms if the first dart had been extracted from the Roman quiver?
How could he not see that the new allies of Rome, instead of clinging to the Theological community, were moving away from them and were going to the Nordic Lido to entrust their souls to that warrior God?
How much hypocrisy to justify the unjustifiable.

It was clear that the Pope had kept the nib to draft that letter, but the hand had been led by someone else. The alternative was that the Holy Father embracing the theories of the Roman Senate had contravened his role as Vicar of Teos, that Teos who would certainly have claimed a leap of dignity, freedom and virtue from those who had nominated to represent him , but to this hypothesis Isabella could not believe.

How much damage could this evildoer of Frà Palmerino have produced before someone had the courage to stop him?
She paused for a moment to reflect, then took the paper and the nib and began to write

Quote
Holy Father,

The awareness that your mind is clouded by some conditioning of unknown nature makes me sad and doesn’t allow me to replicate as I would because it is not my custom to take advantage of people whose clarity, ability to reason, and objectivity of judgment are probably compromised by events that  they can’t be managed in complete freedom.

I’m worried for you, for your health and for your integrity that I feel faint in a person I have met with other qualities.

It’s not me who can establish the evil that afflicts you and never allow myself to do it, I will wait for you to re-establish yourself and eventually continue our confrontation.

With fraternal affection

Quote
Santo Padre,

It was a pity to see someone who had once shown hope of peace now only seeking war and riches.

Quote
Daughter,
Isabelle

There is much of what you seem to imagine of my wits being dulled or denied but I will say it clear now so you can be certain I know what I am speaking of.

1- The prerogatives of authority in Rome's Republic are no less dignified than those of the Urbino Royal Court. If you would ignore my speech there and call it interference to be dismissed, then it would be doubly wrong to insist my remarks be compelled upon the Republic.

2- While the Patriarchal Counterpart to my office holds a history of not allowing her religious duties to stop her from military command or participation it would be absurd to assume that the frocks of a friar should deny the service of a Roman.

3-  It was not Serbia or Savoy that declared hostile takeover of the region of Ferrara or the assault upon Cosenza. Perhaps Rome did not accord them dignity but Urbino was not challenged in any way to suggest the attacks theere were justifiable retaliation. No, they were an opportunistic extension of ancient prides and feuds. Even if you measure the number of living who would be vindicated by the attacks for an expired feud that was a mere signature away from ending....it could not equal the number of new people now mistreated and thus ensuring the feud continues. That is the act of a Wolf, not a sheep.

4- I did not say Rome had no wolves, Isabella.  Are you saying Urbino and Serbia have none? After seeing the battle reports from France and Savoy before the Sicilians and Romans came? My eye sight is very clear and even a handful of the reports were clearly noted by hands not from Rome, but bore the seals and sigils of the kingdoms you now support. Does that mean your allies are not wolves.....when news of their repeated denial of peace offerings and trade agreements came so abundantly only to be denied any chance of success and avoiding bloodshed. No.

The world is now made a pool of blood and you have shed it as well. You threw the bandages away that we could have both used to bring a bilateral peace, not only between Italy and Rome's Republic, but between two entire cultures spanning kingdoms beyond. You spoke often enough yourself of debts and pride that I do not need to hear these words from anyone in the Republic. It is clear now that you have decided not to help friends but to collect old false debts. To deny that is to deny even your own words.

You were a clean and unbloodied lamb of the cretor once and we met then, Now the words of innocence and thoughts of me being the deluded one strike a distinct disagreement with the swords you continue to thrust into the Republic and the blood on your own hands. Only a rabid sheep would become so agressive.....or a wolf that only wore the sheep clothing .

Mock me if you will but if a sword in hand and blood on the blade makes one a wolf then you need to widen the circle of people you are looking at  beyond One friar and see yourself.

You caution me offending a religion? What of the direct participation of them in assaulting a kingdom half way across europe? The kingdom of my childhood had more boots from Serbia and Kiev standing in it than the entire population of France. Why did they come? Because they wanted a religion seeded in the region. Should it not offend every living and breathing follower of Teos to see blood spilled by them in a land that made no threat on any strip or person of their homelands? Do you sdare say that they had "old: feuds with France to settle?

You are a wolf. Palmerino may be a wolf. At least I know and admit that which every sense and several corpses admit to both. When you actually speak of seeking forgiveness instead of properties then I will know you did not want to be a wolf. The same is true of the friar.  Trying to speak of how you imagine I should see my own faith and religion is not the way to get me to see you in a positive light.
Actions speak louder than words. Teos gave us 2 hands and one mouth. All 3 of yours now show blood. Personal and deliberate blood taken from others and not that which before you had said was your own blood spilled by another.

I do not foolishly declare an anathema against you. You would not care anymore since you refused to seethe power of my faith and Teos as the Light of Salvation. The penalty would mean nothing to someone who did not see the power of Teos that is so obvious and integral to my life. I would gain more effect if I blew smoke at you. Now you think of another name to give you what you want. There is the key flaw. The Creator does not live to serve US and OUR plans. Those that are are being rewarded for serving Him.

While you live I will always hold a hope for you to be redeemed though. In the power of life there is always hope. In spreading death you only spread the end of hope. That is true for all who now love swords and blood more than the lives of themselves and others.

I pray that in the coming year and in the seasons ahead that you will cease to consider the hearts and minds around you instead of just dismissing them as broken and inconsequential simply because they are not the same as you would desire them to be.
