Your architect work is exquisite , it is a wonder what men can create with his ingenuity. Still his power always gets humiliated by beauty larger and more
natural that is beyond our understanding and is perceived only throe admiration. I look at the design of geometric designs, but its nothing against symmetry and smell
of the rose.  Or this chain most talented jeweller shaped it, but even he is shamed by nature Who created such beauty like You.

Surprized by the very beautiful gift, Giulia replied smiling, and blushing a bit in the meanwhile - How finely chiseled, Budrys... It's really a masterpiece.
Her fingers followed, in caressing, the silver setting of the chain. - It seems... - she closed her eyes again as for helping a feeling to come in the surface -
it seems like a snowflake...
- She saw in her mind all vast plains of Lithuania in winter time,  the snow swirling in eddies blown by the wind. But she wasn't feeling cold in thinking at that image, only the marvel and enchantment of the power of Nature.

Looking at him and gently smiling she added - Please, Budrys, teach me about your native lands, where Nature is so powerful.

Dreamy sadness brush Budrys face.
It was so long since I seen it....  There are forests of oaks so wast that you could travel many days and see no end of it. Beasts of unimaginable power are there. Aurochs long died out everywhere else still can sometimes be seen inspiering awe in heart of any one seeing, herds of bisons still calmly walk amongst the trees undisturbed by human presents. Forests are sacred for living go there and listens hearing in murmur of the trees calming and consoling voice of the ancestors... For when Lithuanian dies part of him returns to the forest and becomes vėlė some times inhabiting trees in sacred groves or birds that sings or bee that gives us honey.. No Lithuanian would kill a bee... If someone have true soul mate he would even call him bičiulis meaning one who is loved like one bee love another.   Gods too live there amongst nature giving fortune to those who respect them and performing magnificent miracles. Tonight there will be one of them. For only during midsummer night they allow fern to blossom. That is why after night falls two by two people go away from pyres, from singing and dancing in search for miracle. For who ever find the bloom will be blessed with happiness, long life and true love.

His dreamy eyes turned to Giulia

Have you ever searched for bloosom?

Berton spent enough time in Flandres to keep good informers in Brugge.

News about incoming weddings of one of his friends weren't surprising at all, but the visit of pagan high priest really was, at least for him.

Anyway, knowing something about the false gods Pizius and Ragutis, he had to admit that they weren't misplaced in midsummer fest.

Giulia felt his sadness, her eyes asking for forgiving on her previous request. But he looked to be far away and Giulia was lulled by the magic of that daydream, his warm voice telling her all about.

Their eyes crossed again and she had a motion of hesitation. Nobody knew what she was used to do during Midsummer night... an ancient tradition taught her by her nurse so long ago, but she never missed year by year, no matter where she was.

She looked in the deep of his eyes and she felt safe somehow - I'm used to look for a special flower in Midsummer night, Budrys. I really don't know if it's the same....
There is just a sort of ritual I have to follow before looking for it. As long you promise don't look for me before I finished,  I will show you if you like....

I promise, Giulia.

Giulia nodded smiling. Then, she stand up in saying - I'm afraid I have some matters to deal with, Budrys.
Feel free to rest your soul here as long as you like. A page will show you the path back to your apartments when you will wish.

In heading back to the palace, she felt the scent of roses.

The opening of Midsummer celebrations

After sunset, Giulia, riding Auster at slow trot, went to the Markt escorted by Her Royal guard. There everything was ready for the opening of Midsummer celebrations.

All the streets were paved by colored courtains, in the best Flemish tradition. Joy was filling the air all around.
The Belfort bell beat three times and all eyes turned on the high bonfire in the middle of the square, in front of the Belfort.
Giulia headed to the platform set up for the opening where a lively fire was burning in a brazier.
The Lord Chamberlain bowed to the Queen and then handed her a torch ready to be turned on.

Giulia took it with a slow and measured movement, dipping its top in the brazier.
Then, with a vibrating voice, she said - Beloved People of Flanders, Ladies and Lords, Honorable noble Guests from distant lands arrived in a spirit of happiness and friendship, it's a great pleasure to welcome you all here in Brugge for Midsummer celebrations.
Even more after the past harsh months we all know.
May the summer solstice be the wish of prosperity for all you all the years long.
May the Sun, at the peak of his power, warm your hearts, giving you joy and happiness in next seven days.
May the moon, his life companion, silent illuminate your steps in next seven nights.

Finally she threw the torch on the pile of wood.  Flames lit up the night in a overbearing way, lighting with flickering reflections
Giulia's silk dress and her long red copper hair. Lighting also a silent tear long her face.
Then the music began and people started to dance around the bonfire.
She sat on the throne prepared on the platform, the warm of the fire somehow warmed her soul, filling it by peacefulness
and she smiled again.

Later, after midnight, Giulia headed back to the Palace. After having properly changed her dress she went in the courtyard. The horses were ready for the special search. She looked at Budrys and spurred Auster. A small escort was following them at respectful distance.

Not long after Queen was gone Budrys went to his apartments and quietly sacrificed single rose for Milda. Strange short vision of cooper hairs and emerald eyes...  What are you telling me oh Goddess?...

As evening ceremony started Budrys continue to ponder his vision...  He quietly blessed the flames and in dancing shadows he seen her again this time not as an apparition, looking at him...  Its time to ride.... Horses swinishly carried them to the night

Esmee had spent the whole day with Alain, browsing in each stall or workshshop. She was beaming with happiness. At sunset they dined at an inn near the Markt and then went  on hearing the bell.
When she felt on her face the heat of the flames, so high and mighty flames, she looked at Alain with devotion. She wanted nothing more than spend all night dancing with him, feeling the Breeze around her.
That night was sacred for both.

The night was pleasantly lukewarm. They rod fast towards their destination. Auster, her white horse, was biting the brake, as eager to fly.
She turned toward Budrys smiling - Come, Budrys, he is feeling the night too.

Right arrived not far from the source, Giulia stopped and dismounted. Then taking the haversack she told - Please, Budrys, wait me here as promised.

Then she headed to the source, the water flowed from the rock, creating a small pool, but deep enough.
She took a deep breath as looking for the concentration that moment was requiring and she took off her clothes.
She shuddered for a moment in feeling the icy water, then she immersed herself completely.
In the silence of the night, she whispered the same phrases have been taught her in a far time.
She smiled sweetly, at peace with herself, purified by those gestures, but the harmony was not yet complete.
Her thoughts went back to the long war time, so she nodded and taking a knife in the haversack, she  lightly cut the palm of her hand, leaving the clean water
of the source wash away the blood. She whispered - May this spring water wash away all the blood have been spread all around.  May peace come back in the heart of all those involved in these harsh long months.

Then she dressed a simple white tunic and come back to Budrys - Budrys, this night you are seeing a very hidden side of me, but I trust in you...
Please, come to see the flowers I'm used to look for this special night long.

Listening whooping of owls Budrys waited in the dark, his eyes was already adjusted for darkness, moon and stars allowed him to see strange shadows dancing amongst branches. He felt he knew them... Maybe not by name but by story each hidden inside. Soothing song that forest sang that night was warm and a bit mischievous like spirits them selves came out to play amongst branches refreshed by the wind...

White shadow appeared... Growing and getting closer and closer... It was she... More beautiful then ever without the burned of trinkets just a perfection that only Gods could craft. Now Budrys fully recognise vision send by Milda... Recognised and understood...

Budrys, this night you are seeing a very hidden side of me, but I trust in you...
Please, come to see the flowers I'm used to look for this special night long.

He took her hand without a word and alowed him self to be led.

Upon arrival in Hainaut it did not take Alain long to find his beloved Esmee.  As always, the first glimpse of her caused his heart to skip a beat and it always made him momentarily dizzy.  He hoped he did not lose balance and fall over right before her, so he reached for her arm and found himself pulling her close by instinct. This made the dizziness worse and he started to laugh as he hugged her to him.

The day was magic...taking-in all the sights and sounds and visiting all the stalls and the vendors assembled for the grand event. They ate, drank and had a day you only dream or read about...

That night, his arms wrapped around her, they gazed contentedly into the roaring fire. Alain knew he could never be happier and that he considered himself the luckiest man alive to be loved by such a women. He knew the time was right for them to make it "official" and marry this gift from the heavens. He poured some more wine for them both and started to think of a way he could gain an audience with the Primicerius so they could convert. He knew that was step number one...

Giulia, also silent, motioned him to head toward the source. They climbed the rock on the right till the point where the slope stopped, creating a natural platform. There was a slit large enough to allow the passage. Entering it, a blossomed clearing opened  before their eyes. Giulia stopped standing and looking at that beauty, the she said in a low voice - Those are the flowers I'm used to gather on Midsummer night due to their healing properties.

The Prussian flagged ship was docking at the port of Brugge. King Ignacio was in his private room.
The trip was long but enough the ship had not found problems of navigation, the sea had been calm for the whole trip. Deus and St. Albert had protected the king of Prussia. A few miles from the finish, a sailor shouted "Land!" The journey had come to an end. King Ignacio left the room, came forward and, with the sea breeze that was in his face, smiled.
He said to the master: "Finally! This land are the Flanders! Tell the men to get ready ..."

Budrys recognise the flowers... And he knew the prayer... Older then walls of great temples, older then cities, even older then words for not for them lips were created....

As stars blessingly shined, spirits  danced in shadows of bushes seemingly undisturbed by garments carelessly landing in their dominion.... Budrys and Giulia worshipped together in silent embrace then in primordial sounds of nature and in mystical power of  flowers... Until nothing  of them was left just one more apparition glorious like first midsummer dew just before the sunrise...
