Title: OOC: How to Role Play (RP) on the Forum
Post by: (RIP) Nuada Silverhand on 15 December, 2012, 01:28:25 AM
One of the most rewarding parts of a "world" like this is the chance to tell our stories. Yet it is not our stories, but the stories of the characters we create. Sometimes people are hesitant to start, not being sure how it should be done. So this thread is an attempt to give some helpful hints.

1. Remember that RP is like writing a short story. Just making a comment or asking a question doesn't make it a story or an RP. Description gives it life. So describe what your character looks like or where he/she is. Tell what is happening or even what he/she is thinking.

2. Use plenty of dialogue. Let your character speak. You can use "" marks or a different color or font face or bold or italics to show what is being said. Only what the character says, not his/her thoughts, can be known by other characters, so if you want someone else to respond it's best to say things instead of thinking them.

That's enough for now. I'll be back with more later! Happy RP-ing!

RP, Or Role play is an interesting way to  enjoy one's game.

to begin with one must  know what is happening. if its a Role play thread or a simple Chat  one of the most notible ways to tell if its a Role play thread is to post a simply  RP with some kind of identifier around it.  thus allowing people whom wish to role play to do so.

it is important to know what is a role play where our character's  are and the of topic chats are  a mix of both.

OOC: stands for Out of Character

this is where the players post not the character's

Do try to keep role-play in perspective with your current in game situation however, I have been around long enough to take note of the countless Role-Plays where one who in game would spend their time farming - and role playing in the forum about their golden-plated estates and man servants xD

It helps a lot to include people or make a scenario for them to get involved in - you'll make friends this way and probably have more fun than just writing a monologue :P

Examples:
IG: Town Guard
RP: An interesting Night Patrol with a fellow guard, or your captain.

IG: Carpenter
RP: An Artisans journey to find the great Oak, with some wood-cutters from town.

Also, I often give people some kind of opportunity or role which they can RP about, skirmishes, operations, projects
& finally, I've often found that private role-plays through IG-Messages can be quite fun too, as though two people sending letters to one another. It can be done on the forum with someone you've just met too, using the message system. If you don't want people to see your RP :)
